Overview

On October 1, 1991, after being taken over by PT. Krakatau Steel and becoming a state-owned company, the CRM factory was officially designated as a production unit of PT. Krakatau Steel. The factory is located in the Krakatau Industrial Area, with the main factory building covering an area of 10 hectares on a total land area of 40 hectares.
The Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) is a facility that processes steel sheets previously thinned by the Hot Strip Mill (HSM). The output from the HSM is further thinned through a cooling process in a Cold Reduction Mill tandem, reducing it to 92% of its previous thickness. Before undergoing the thinning process, the steel sheets must be cleaned in tanks containing HCl. Subsequently, the sheets go through a heating process using the Batch Annealing Furnace (BAF) and Continuous Annealing Line (CAL) systems. The resulting steel sheets are then leveled using a temper mill according to customer requirements.
The factory is a production unit that processes thin sheets of steel, which have been previously thinned, and further reduces their thickness in the CRM unit to as low as 92% of their original thickness, resulting in rolled steel with a thickness of 0.2-2.2 mm. The raw material for the production process of cold-rolled steel coil and sheets is hot-rolled sheets with a thickness of 2-3 mm. This raw material is delivered in the form of coils with an average weight of 23 tons and transported using special transportation equipment (bolsters) with a capacity of 120 tons per transport.
